You are right about this, but we have also never lived in a generation of such drastic debt and our markets are not sustainable at this level of debt....

Drastic debt? Says who? By what historical standard?

The debt stands at $23,300 per US Citizen. So in my LIFETIME, the government has amassed debt of about $100,000 for my family of four. In the past five years, one tenth of my lifetime, the 401K at my latest employeer stands at over $200,000 (after the significant drop of the past few months).

How much money does an average new car cost? How much money for a house? When looked at in that light, there is nothing draconian about the national debt. Nothing to indicate that it can't be sustained.

While I disagree with your economic theories and 110% disagree with the accuracy of your facts and figures, you and I are in complete agreement with one thing...

The US can't continue to be the global police force. Frankly Europe consumes the majority of middle eastern oil, not the US. They are the ones that will find themselves in a world of hurt when the wells run dry. The US has huge untapped natural resources (coal and oil). Europe needs to man up and take care of their mess. Sadly there are far too many Chamberlain's in Europe.

Thread hijack over -- AAPL stock is down just to create an opportunity for common folk to buy it.

Now I can't sell it anymore for a good price:(

eBay people are dumb.. sell NOW! People come on here, a Mac forum, still asking when the transition to Intel is gonna start.

You'll be fine, believe me LOL.

The torn pages and stoplights against the leather are jarring.
I like the internal changes. I just hope they do something a little less silly with the toolbar.

Why is Apple always trying to make money with all their products and services, what other company does this ;)

Why can't all Apple products and services be free, I deserve it :D

Why do you assume that I'm violent natured?

You just told me that you'd beat hell out of someone (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12453464&postcount=56).

Non violent people don't tend to use assault to solve their problems.

Does anyone know what the month view will look like with this new update to lion...screenshots please.

Guaranteed it will look just like the iPad version, which I don't mind. I think iCal is probably one of my favorites apps on iPad.

The GSMArena article is wrong there. It is true that the F700 was officially "introduced in Feb 2007", but it was already shown at the IFA fair in Berlin in autumn 2006.

    So what?

No one will deny the success Apple has, yet its not good enough for this greedy CEO and company.

They are just out of control. Pure unadulterated gluttony.

Anti glare is not matt. The old imacs with matt screens were impossible to calibrate and had terrible issues with 'white-out'. The glass screens are a massive improvement and anyone with half a brain cell can sort their set up so that glare is a non issue.

I must be one of the lucky ones with a matte iMac 24" (zero problems) and its running on an SSD. I am looking for a decent Optical Drive replacement so I can use an SSD and 3TB HDD. The only noise emitted is the fan and I cannot control the speed to go any lower than :apple: default. :(

OMG... it's .2mm thicker. STOP THE PRESSES!

Apple shouldn't be aloud to state the thickness as being the same as the black iPhone. If they can't even fit into some cases then it's just yet another issue apple has to amend. Honestly, with all the QC issues and delays in the past do they just purposely not tackle issues that surely a competent R&D faculty would inevitably find?

But my point is that even if we get a 40% boost in our CPU, it is near useless.

For example, lets say you have 100/100 in a test. Having a theoretical 40% boost will give you a 140/100. I mean, thats cool. Overkill. That is currently the CPU we have. We have enough to accomplish our tasks, and any more would be an overkill in the things we need our computer to process.

On the other hand, on the GPU side, you have a 80/100 (which is what the NVIDIA 320m is) and we see a 30% performance drop, that will result to a 42.5/100. At lower levels, difference between a 80/100 and 42.5/100 is the difference between a pass and a fail.

Of course, having a better CPU might be fulfilling to you and might give you the sense that you are the "latest in tech," but seriously, it is not about the CPU any more, it is about SSDs, ergonomics, GPU, and ultimately, Software.

    +1

I agree. I think the 'gain' in processor speed will be hard to notice. But for many of us, the 'drop' in gpu performance (which is already marginal with the 320m) will be deadly.

I love how so many fanboys love it when Apple makes money from expensive products.

Some of us think those "expensive" products are worth every penny.

Some of us own AAPL shares and benefit from the company's success.

When your company rips you off you don't turn around and say good job keep it up.

You want rip-off? Microsoft makes its billions charging hundreds for a 10-cent CD in a dollar's worth of packaging. So does Adobe. Where's your outrage?

    Nokia is dying.

    Ballmer is providing mouth-to-mouth.

    (Personally, I'd choose death.)

Look, you made a claim that TB seemed like an evolution of Fiber channel. I use Fiber channel day in and out on everyone of my servers.

Your arguments would be stronger if you spelled it correctly - "Fibre Channel" ;)

...the bottom line is that TB is a great deal faster than even an eSATA connection.

While "great deal faster" is fuzzy language open to interpretation, IMO I don't consider 10 Gbps TBolt to be a "great deal faster" than 6 Gbps SATA. TBolt can't handle two SATA connections at full bandwidth - that's not a "great deal faster" in my opinion.

When it was called "Light Peak", the technology had a lot of promise. Now that it's been downgraded to daisy-chained copper - it's only a little bit better than USB 3.0. Except that we can buy USB 3.0 devices, it's still "in the future" for TBolt devices.

Along with the recent encouraging 3Q 2006 financial results (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/07/20060719164004.shtml) from Apple on Wednesday, independent research firms Gartner and IDC have recently reported on 2Q 2006 market share (http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/07/20/marketshare/index.php) (via MacWorld). Both firms report solid gains from 1 year ago, with IDC reporting a jump from 4.4 to 4.8% U.S. Marketshare and Gartner reporting a jump from 4.3 to 4.6%, making the Mac maker the 4th largest maker of computers behind Dell (32%), HP (18.9%), and Gateway (6.2%).

This is the first reported gains in marketshare for Apple since the Intel transition, as last quarter saw minor losses (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/06/20060601164133.shtml). From last quarter, it appears as though Apple has gained an entire percentage point in market share (up from 3.5-3.6% 1Q 2006).

    Digg This (http://digg.com/apple/Mac_Marketshare_Increasing)

    is that good or bad?

iMac with thunderbolt! (but I want macbook / macbook pro with hi-res screen more)

No. It will just start shipping with Lion.

Btw, do Apple usually give free updates to customers who bought the computer a time period (say 2 months) before new OS release?

    Are you guys for real?

I'm not really into apple or apple products, but there is no big mystery behind the string ix.Mac.MarketingName (except for 'Mac', that is)

'ix' is and object or a variable in whatever programming language they've written this in.

'Mac' and 'MarketingName' are either methods or keys (in a hash) belonging to the 'ix' variable/object.

Let me illustrate with a simple javascript/JSON variable:

    var ix = {

    ### Alienware is still significantly better in terms of performance specs. For $2700, you can build an Alienware with RAID HDs, etc. Biggest question for me is...is Apple still underclocking the GPU on the 15" model...??? To me, Apple's MBPs aren't as good as a value as their Mac Pro, but with this update, Apple's "in the ballpark"...and I would get the MBP over the Alienware...assuming Autodesk releases a UB of Maya soon. My two cents...

Does it come with the trolley needed to carry it? We're talking notebooks here :)

I'm baffled about how a few LEDs can determine your choice between two totally different notebooks

that's easy, macbook without backlit keyboard is too ugly to me.

PE's historically range between 7(bear lows) and 18 (bull highs) so 10 would be about the point where the weekly P&F chart (54) turns bearish.

However you must consider that AAPL is 100% discretionary consumer spending so when recession hits consumers will cut back in favour of things like food and oil. Want another negative, here is one, 18 billion in cash...held in a fast depreciating currency (lost half its value over the past 6 years). Or how about this, DRM free music, sure to result in more file sharing and less iTunes sales. And on the topic of iTunes, another negative, all that new competition...one of them is sure to break the AAPL hold on that market.

That weekly P&F chart is the worst I have seen in the past 5 years

You are using generalizations about P/E for the entire stock market and applying it to one company. This is chart-driven nonsense -- it's like looking at the forest and believing you can describe every tree. Divining the future using charts isn't as easy and foolproof as you suggest.

As for the cash being held in dollars -- this of course has absolutely no impact on Apple's value as a US corporation. In fact if Apple holds some of its cash in other currencies, which they almost certainly do, this would only increase the value of their cash holdings in dollars if the dollar depreciated. We should also know that the depreciated dollar helps exporters like Apple tremendously.
